Ohh no, the Russians got Chris Evert too

It started as a Russian lie to help a Russian boxer win a medal at the World Championships a few years ago.

That zombie fake story was resurrected at the Olympics this past month so the wackos who are just itching to attack trans people in sports can score political points — including Elon Musk.

The bandwagon started filling up with JK Rowling, Richard Dawkins, Martina Navratilova and eventually trickled down to America’s former sweetheart Chris Evert.

Yes, I’m talking about the two women boxers who were falsely accused of failing a genetic test.

Why do I say false?

No one has seen this test. There’s no record they took a genetic test. A Russian official announced it to disqualify the two fighters who could stop a Russian fighter from winning a medal at the World Championships in 2022. The Olympics use genetic tests. Both women passed theirs.

You have to wade through a lot of rumor and bullshit (even in this NPR story to dig out these little nuggets of truth).

It was such a lie, the organization that spread it (the IBA –International Boxing Association) had been banned from participating in the Olympics.

Just a quick check of the facts made the lie obvious. It was a woman fighting for Algeria. Do you really think a Muslim country is going to let a trans person carry the country’s flag in the Olympics?

Her boxing record: 37-9. Good but not man-beating-on-helpless-ladies great.

No one had a copy of the test results. For the first several days, no one seemed to check who made the statement.

That would be Umar Krevlev from where? Russia. You know the entire country that has been banned from the Olympics in 2019 for cheating.

I’m sure the Italian fighter who quit after just one punch, had her head filled with the fake story. It looked to me like she was freaked out before the bell rang.

I’m sure if she knew the truth, she would have had a chance of winning the bout. She’s a victim of this bullshit too.

Of course this is a product of the right-wing love for all things Putin. These kinds of lies and propaganda buzz through right wing media like flies clumping on a pile of dog shit.

Of course they are at fault for spreading it.

But I’m most disappointed with the rich and famous who piled on without even taking a second to review. Looking at you Martina and Christie. As a tennis fan, your pile on hit home first.

I understand your concern about males competing with females. Even Martina’s former coach and trans tennis player Renee Richard has said trans MTF athletes should NOT be allowed to compete as females in the Olympics.

But determining “gender” is complicated and sensitive.

All Olympic level athletes are freaks of nature. They are in the .1 percent of the population for strength or endurance or focus. A lot of it they were just born with. Winners in a genetic lottery.

That can include Y chromosomes in people who look and have always been treated as female.

• Or increased testosterone levels in males or females.
• Or an ability to absorb and use testosterone more efficiently than other bodies.
• Or, or, or… there’s a long list of genetic factors that could be defined as “gender” advantages. It’s best left to the legitimate governing bodies of each sport.

Of course it still takes incredible effort — you still have to beat all the other freaks who have won the genetic lottery. Although the percentages are small — out of 7 billion people on earth, the numbers are pretty big and there are thousands of top competitors in every event.

So before we denigrate the people and their effort and start throwing around accusations about any athlete, maybe take 10 minutes on the Google.

Like almost everything on Twitter and Instagram, the story of trans people taking overs sports is probably bullshit. There are a few famous exceptions — looking at you, Lia Thomas and your quick domination of women’s college swimming in 2022. Thomas, by the way, was banned from 2024 Olympics.

I was especially disappointed in Martina and Chrissie who have lived the impact of lies told about them. I remember the scandal when Martina was “outed” as a gay woman, and the ripples and rumors it spread through women’s tennis.

These new lies (that Martina and “Chrissy” helped spread) not only hurt the two boxers, they impacted their opponents, ruined the reputation of the sport and spread these kind of Russian-backed stories designed to stir up trouble where little exists.

Putinists in Russia have a particular hatred for LGBTQ… From passing laws and persecuting people to using anti-gay “morals” as a reason to invade Ukraine.

All fascists need an enemy — usually a small and helpless group. Hitler used the jews, Trump uses the Latino migrants, and Putin uses the “gays” and by extension the “trans”.

The leading voices for sports in America should know better. Martina and Chrissy are paid well to work on the Tennis Channel and elsewhere. They should check their sources and know what the fuck they are talking about before posting and spreading this kind of bullshit. They are aiding and abetting those who wish to do America harm.

The least they could do is apologize now that the propaganda has been exposed and the fake story has fallen apart. As far as I know neither has.

Neither have the other “leading voices” who were quick to condemn and attack, but are way too slow to retract and correct. Perhaps they did, and the media doesn’t bother to report the fix. But I doubt it.

At this point an apology from anybody about a political opinion would probably make front page news — or it should. These days, a sincere and clear apology is rarer than a trans athlete competing at the Olympics.

I don’t know how much money it takes to get people to do a little checking before promoting a lie from Russia.

It took $787 million to get Fox News to stop repeating a lie about voting machines…

Maybe you would have to get $50 billion out of Elon? He was willing to throw away $44 billion to buy Twitter just to amplify his own bullshit around the world.

But I hope they have to pay enough to get them to even think about acting like decent human beings before they hit “post”.
