We spent 13 days in Italy eating, drinking and taking videos of our old faces in front of much older buildings. But our best vacation video had nothing to do with age or ancient architecture.

It was a message from a baby.

That baby can’t talk, but she’s knows the call of the grandpa.

Sure, sure… it looks like nothing to you. But to me, it’s a deep connection across the planet.

“Do the grandpa thing,” the wife said. So we sent this…

Three seconds of reminding the grandchild who I am

The Boy and his smarty-pants wife were bright enough to share the video of Blossom’s response to the call.

That little message will guarantee them 16 hours of free babysitting a week for life (or at least until the grandkid is sick of singing “this little finger” with two sexagenarians.)

By the way, don’t you wish sexagenarian was a category on pornhub rather than the decade we become eligible for Medicare? Ok maybe it could be a porn category, but let’s really, really hope it’s not a popular one.

Anyway, we glanced at the pictures from the dog sitter. We quickly texted friends and other family… but we played the “call of the grandpa” video a thousand times. Mostly while lying on strange beds cranking down underpowered air conditioning units until our hotel rooms were colder than any refrigerator in Italy.

Yes, we have scrimped and saved for 35 years to be able to afford to travel.

Yes, we plan on taking these extended trips for the next 10 years.

And No, in all that saving, and planning and talking, we did not expect that our most popular vacation video would be the one that came from “home.”

But what you gonna do….

“Pbbbhhhh Grandpa”.
